Typeface Designer Receives MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Award

Most of us probably use one of Matthew Carter’s creations every day: the typeface Verdana. Yesterday the MacArthur Foundation awarded one of their 23 “Genius Awards” with a $500,000 stipend to 72-year-old type designer Matthew Carter with a nod to “carry on.” In his interview with NPR he describes some of the challenges of designing a font for on-screen use.
