Chicago design agency wins another first place in the Custom Textile category
During the gala Celebration of Design, Lexie Markarian and Tanya Fretheim accept the Custom Textile Award on behalf of Beyond the Surface by Street Level Studio.
October 2nd, 2023, Highwood, IL – For the third year running, Beyond the Surface by Street Level Studio has won a Design Excellence Award from the American Society Interior Designers – Illinois Chapter (ASID-IL). CEO Tanya Fretheim and Director of Sales Lexie Markarian accepted the first place Custom Textile award at the organization’s 2023 Celebration of Design on September 19. The annual event honors outstanding work in the local design community, recognizing residential, commercial, and product design projects as well as individual designers for their contributions.
A panel of ASID professionals across the country judged nearly two dozen entries in the Custom Textile category this year, selecting Beyond the Surface for top honors. The winning design—a charming custom biophilic wallcovering featuring hand-drawn flora and a spirited little bird—was created to add character to the anchor wall of a mid-century modern dining room. Working directly with the family allowed the Beyond the Surface team to tailor the wallcovering to address specific pain points: an open floor plan with an undefined dining space and frosted windows that obstructed views to the outside.
